Environmental Justice

We are building healthy communities from the ground up! Everyone deserves to live in an environment that is clean, safe and healthy. As Kansans, we understand that our health is not only dependent on what happens in the doctor’s office, but is also affected by the air we breathe, the water we drink and the communities we call home.

Together, the Sierra Club and Sunflower Community Action have partnered to save homeowners money, reduce Wichita’s energy use, and create cleaner air by cutting down on smog and other pollutants. We are targeting diverse and low-income populations in Wichita, covering four zip codes: 67214, 67208, 67209 and 67219.

We are set to double the amount of participants and home audits, improving and renewing homes across our community!

 

What We’ve Done

• Enrolled 60 families
• Performed 25 home audits
• Established Partnership with Westar, Lowes, Expert Auto Shop, and faith base organizations for volunteers and other resources such as light bulbs and weatherization kits
• Partnered with apartment owners to weatherize apartments and establish immediate savings on cost of weatherization kits
