Sunflower Community Action

Leadership Program

Students break the ice with a fun activity

Students United had a fun filled hardworking summer. 15 Students United members participated in TIME (Teens Involved More Everyday), a leadership program that helped them develop leadership skills such as public speaking, door knocking, and learning about current Kansas issues. During the 5 week program, students completed workshops with several leaders of the community and took part in a small college fair. They also attended an educational tour at Youthville where they were able to ask questions regarding students in the system and truancy questions.

After completing their leadership program the students conducted a public forum where they engaged with candidates. Students brought up topics such as bullying, discrimination, and inadequate school funding.  Students United organizer Mark Gurrola has lots of exciting things coming up for  the new school year. Chapters will continue to meet at North and South High and General meetings will be at the Sunflower office.
