Taking action for racial and economic equity.

Civic Engagement

  • We believe that a truly empowered community must be socially conscious in order to take action when needed. Action may come through voting or through other means of giving back to their community.
  • Using methods of popular education we engage our community in conversations about the issues we are facing and their root causes. Through a process of house meetings, they talk about possible solutions, come to a collective narrative and talk about how they can become involved and make a difference. House meetings are an ongoing program area of Sunflower.

What We’ve Done

  • Partnered with over 20 organizations to create KanVote, a coalition of organizations working to protect voting rights
  • Started an electoral program focused on educating and registering new and marginalized voters about the issues affecting their communities
